Asus presents Geforce GTX 970 Turbo – new entry-level series with chalk-white cooler

Nvidia’s popular and to some extent also controversial Geforce GTX 970 is still in the news, but this time it’s not about odd memory configurations or newly molded drivers. Instead, it is the component giant Asus that uses the model to launch a new series of graphics cards in entry-level design intended to compete with competitors’ counterparts based on the reference design.

The new graphics card is called Asus Turbo GTX 970 and is a sparse model with a couple of characteristic details. First of all, a bright white cooler with red accents can be seen. The heat sink has no heat pipes and is instead made entirely of aluminum. It is combined with a single radial fan, which can collect cool air from both sides thanks to an extra short circuit board.

As usual, the GM204 graphics processor is located with 1,664 computing units and 4 GB of memory on a 256-bit memory bus (224 + 32 bits). Asus increases the clock frequencies a bit to 1,088 and 1,228 MHz at base respective boost while the memory frequency is left unchanged at 7,008 MHz GDDR5.

More details are power supply via an 8-pin connector, connection to PCI Express 3.0 x16 and video outputs for two DVIs, an HDMI 2.0 and finally a Displayport 1.2. The Asus Turbo GTX 970 will appear on store shelves in May. Some price information is not yet known.
