Azerbaijan plans to double capacity of gas pipelines to Europe

BAKU, 2 Sep – PRIME. Azerbaijan plans to increase the capacity of the Trans-Anatolian (TANAP) and Trans-Adriatic (TAP) gas pipelines, through which fuel is delivered to Europe, President Ilham Aliyev said.

Gas supplies via Nord Stream will resume from September 3

“We plan to double the export of natural gas to Europe, and I am sure that we will achieve this,” he said, speaking at an international forum in Cernobbio, Italy.

According to the politician, now the maximum capacity of TANAP is 16 billion cubic meters of gas, TAP – 10 billion cubic meters. It is planned that these figures will grow to 32 and 20, respectively.

Aliyev acknowledged that such a move would require additional funding, but Azerbaijan, as an investor country, is ready for this.

The head of the republic also recalled that in August he and the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen signed a memorandum of understanding between the EU and Azerbaijan on a strategic partnership in the field of energy. According to him, this was an important step towards the development of bilateral cooperation.
