Starting next year, over 25,000 stores in France will accept Bitcoin payments, according to an article published by Le Figaro. This is the result of a collaboration between East2PlayPayment, EasyWallet and Global POS digital payment companies.
The official announcement was made at the Paris Retail Week conference, which brings together the big retailers in France. In the first quarter of 2020, payments with Bitcoin will become possible in 30 retail networks. These include Boulanger, Foot Locker, Decathlon, Conforama, Maison du Monde, Intersport, Culture, Norauto and Sephora.
BTC payments can be made through POSs distributed by Global POS, and cryptocurrencies will be automatically converted into euros. In this way, the traders themselves do not have to complicate the management of Bitcoin, and users have a new payment method available.
Bitcoin is the only accepted cryptocurrency
Global POS has announced that, for a start, Bitcoin is the only accepted cryptocurrency, but plans to extend the services for others as well:
“Initially, the service we provide will only allow the use of Bitcoin. Our objective is to expand to other cryptocurrencies in the future ”,
said Stephane Djiane, CEO and founder of Global POS.
According to last year’s surveys conducted by Le Figaro, about 3-6% of French citizens own cryptocurrencies. The possibility of using them for shopping is one of the important steps for mass adoption, and France seems to have taken an important step in this regard.
