Bitcoin Teen Erik Finman Informs American Congress About bitcoin

Erik Finman has reportedly informed some members of the US Congress about bitcoin and cryptocurrency. In this briefing, he told congressmen what bitcoin and cryptocurrency is, and what it can mean for America. It is not entirely clear what exactly Finman told the conference members and how far he went into detail. He doesn’t let that know on Twitter:

Today I briefed Congressional Representatives and staffers on Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and what it means for America.

There is amazing energy in Washington, and people are ready to talk about crypto and find solutions for all Americans.

Somehow this is also striking. In December 2018, Erik Finman was still very negative about the future of bitcoin. He said that bitcoin is “as good as dead.” That is, if bitcoin fails to solve the scale problem. Litecoin, too, was in its last days, according to Finman. Apparently he has changed his mind.

Famous teenage bitcoin millionaire

Maybe the name Erik Finman makes you ring a bell. He was best known for a mini-documentary by BuzzFeed in October 2017. That was then in the middle of the previous bull market, when the price of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencys rose to great heights.

Erik Finman received a thousand euros in 2011 from his grandmother. That was actually intended for his studies, but he put the amount entirely in bitcoin. At that time, bitcoin only had a value of around ten euros each.

All the while he has been holding his bitcoins. And that, he says, earned him a profit of four million euros. Enough not to have to continue studying, as he had made a bet with his parents not to go to college if he were a millionaire before the age of 18.

US government investigates bitcoin and cryptocurrency

After Facebook announced Libra, bitcoin and cryptocurrency are at the top of the US government’s agenda. David Marcus from Libra and Facebook, for example, had to answer to the US Senate.

On Tuesday, July 30, the US Senate will hold a debate on cryptocurrency and blockchain legislation in America. This takes place at 4 p.m. Dutch time and is broadcast live on the internet. Finman may have informed some government members in preparation for this debate.

We are curious about the consequences of this debate for bitcoin and cryptocurrency. We will keep you informed of all developments!
