Bitfinex transfers € 1 billion in Bitcoin for € 0.62 of fees

The popular crypto-exchange Bitfinex performed a transfer from 161,500 Bitcoin (BTC), is around 1 billion euros at the current price, for only 0.000010019 BTC.

Defenders of Bitcoin often highlight the fact that the cryptocurrency allows you to transfer large sums of money around the globe for minimal fees, especially compared to traditional bank transfers and other money transfer services.

And BitFinex, the group's cryptocurrency exchange iFinex, proves it again with a transfer of 161,500 bitcoins, or exactly 986 million euros at current prices, at a cost of less than 1 euro. The platform has indeed paid 0.000010019 BTC, or about 0.62 €, for minors to pass the transaction.

According to the details of the operation, on the 161,500 BTC displaced, 15,000 BTC were sent to a new wallet, while the rest – 146,500 BTC – was returned to the original address.

Following the promotion of the transaction by a twittos, the Bitfinex CTO, Paolo Ardoino, explained that the platform had recharged a hot wallet of 15,000 bitcoins and confirmed that 146,500 BTC had returned to the original address.

The last such transaction dates back to January 2020 when an unidentified whale to transfer 124,946 bitcoins for 0.0096 BTC (~ 75 euros) mining costs.

Earlier in fall 2019, another major bitcoin holder had moved 44,000 BTC for around 0.30 euros of charges.
