One of the industries with explosive growth in 2019 was the one dedicated to blockchain technology. Both Fortune 500 startups and companies need specialists, and the average salary for a developer in the field in the US has reached $ 130,000.
The need for specialists in the field has led to an increase in the demand for specialized courses from students. Fortunately, many universities have responded to this request and introduced blockchain specializations into the program.
This year, the University of California launched an initiative to support blockchain student innovation on their campuses. IBM works with Columbia University on two blockchain accelerators, and Portland State offers an online blockchain business certificate.
Students’ interest in blockchain education
Meanwhile, the majority representatives of the blockchain industry have launched their own schooling projects. Earlier this year, 13 major crypto projects came together to launch The Blockchain Education Alliance. This initiative provides students with the necessary knowledge and connections to find jobs. In addition, the Alliance has launched a technology recruitment firm specializing in blockchain to connect projects with the available talents.
The interest of students in blockchain education has doubled compared to the previous year. Currently there are more than 70 blockchain organizations run by students from 16 countries. These include some top tertiary institutions, including UCLA, UCSB, UC Davis, Duke, University of Chicago, USC, University of Wisconsin and University of Washington. Many student organizations also operate as incubators for their own projects and provide consultancy to interested companies.
By 2020, the trend will definitely continue – more colleges will expand the range of accredited courses and blockchain types of specialization. As long as the demand for specialists in the market remains high, the education system will seek to satisfy it.
