Bravo November will go to the museum. This is a unique CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter

In September 1961, for the first time in history, a unique CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter took to the air. Since 1980, the Royal Air Force (RAF), i.e. the British Air Force, has been using them in their operations, and with exceptional efficiency, because this helicopter has become a key element in the conduct of many wars and operations. Now one of them, the legendary Bravo November, will go to the museum for his well-deserved retirement.

The CH-47 Chinook Bravo November transport helicopter will go to the British Air Force Museum

Why is the Bravo November the title unique CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter? There are many issues with that term, but most importantly, it was one of the first 30 units ordered by the RAF in 1978. When he got into service, he was not spared at all, because he took part in operations in the Falkland Islands, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and in fact in all major conflicts of the last 40 years.

It was on board Bravo November that four pilots showed so much that they deserved the DFC (Distinguished Air Cross) award, and from April 2 this year it will be shown to the public at the Royal Air Force Museum in Cosford. It purchased a Chinook HC6A Bravo November helicopter for an unknown sum and is now awaiting delivery, which has been in operation since March 16 via road.

The Chinook, and especially the Bravo November, is a significant addition to the RAF Museum collection. Visitors to the museum will be able to appreciate the tremendous efforts and sacrifices required for the campaign to be a success in the Falklands from viewing this most famous of the airframes.

This ornate helicopter, which also performed various roles in operations around the world since 1982, has been involved in some of the most important moments in British and world history and carried more extraordinary stories of service, sacrifice and heroism at home and abroad.

Said Dr. Peter Johnston, head of the RAF Museum’s collection.
