Canadian port operator joins TradeLens blockchain platform

Global Container Terminals (GCT), a North American container terminal operator, has announced its accession to the TradeLens blockchain platform developed by IBM and Maersk.

GCT operates GCT Deltaport, Canada’s largest container shipping terminal, GCT Vanterm, GCT Bayonne and GCT New York. The Canadian division of the company, located in Vancouver, will deploy a blockchain system for all four container terminals.

TradeLens will improve transparency in freight flows and track supply chains on the east and west coasts of North America. The platform connects all participants in the supply chain, including ocean freight carriers, cargo owners, and rail carriers.

Recall that the launch of the TradeLens platform took place in August last year. At the moment, the ports of Valencia, Algeciras and St. Petersburg, as well as the operator of container terminals in Hong Kong and the shipping companies MSC and CMA CGM, have already connected to the system.
