China launched blockchain identification system for smart cities

China has launched a blockchain-based identification system for smart cities, aimed at improving communication and data exchange between them.

The system was developed by three institutes in Shijiazhuang and will assign a unique global digital identifier for smart cities across the country, reports the Global Times with reference to Xinhua News Agency.

Zhang Chao, director of the Shijiazhuang Institute for Two-Dimensional Code Technology Research Institute, said that the system developed by China will “be distributed and managed by the country, with a single distribution rule, distributed storage solution, and crack-resistant code.”

China began testing the development of smart cities in 2012 with the goal of creating at least 100 by 2020. According to Deloitte, as of last summer in China, about 500 pilot projects of smart cities were developed – the highest number in the world.

Recall that last month, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping called for speeding up the implementation of the blockchain in the country, calling the latest technology the basis for transformations in industry, finance and other industries.
