Chinese customs seize 5,840 graphics cards from XFX China

XFX is a division of Pine Technology Holdings Limited, based in Hong Kong. This company is based in California USA, but also has subdivisions in other regions, such as China. According to reports, this Asian branch now has serious problems with the China Customs Office after a shipment of graphics cards with mislabeled specifications was discovered, to reduce import tax.

During the investigation, the Chinese authorities confirmed that the specifications of the graphics cards, a total of 5,840 units, did not match the information on the labels. Those cards are worth 20 million RMB, which is about 3.15 million USD.

This is what the official Weibo video description of the case says:

Recently, when Meilin Customs and Huanggang Customs carried out a joint inspection of a company’s goods declared for import from Huanggang Port, it was found that 3 of the video card labels were covered by other labels. . It was found that the specifications and models shown on the actual labels, which were covered by the other labels, did not match the declared specifications and models, therefore, the batch of graphics cards underwent inspection in accordance with the law. After identification, the actual specifications and models of 5840 graphics cards did not match the declaration, and the value of the goods exceeded 20 million.

Although the images clearly show that it is an XFX QICK card, the Chinese website MyDrivers speculates that the card in the image is an international version of the XFX SPEEDSTER QICK Radeon RX 6700 XT. This second image really shows the size of the seizure, as there seem to be lots and lots of boxes full of GPUs.

The official website of XFX China was also temporarily closed, this is serious and a bit suspicious and could indicate that the brand may be directly involved in all this. However, MyDrivers says XFX China did not respond to inquiries. According to a 2020 report, XFX was allegedly involved in the illegal sale of many AMD Radeon RX 500 and RX 5000 series GPUs directly to mining farms.
