Chrome: Google is adding a permissions tab to the extensions menu
Google Chrome displays an extension icon on its toolbar that lists all installed and enabled browser extensions. The menu will soon feature a permissions tab to give users control over site access permissions.
The extensions menu lists the extensions installed and enabled by default. Users can pin them to display their icons on the Chrome toolbar or manage them from the extensions menu. The main purpose of the extensions icon is to make things neater on the toolbar.
A click on the extensions icon shows the extensions and two icons next to each one. The pin icon toggles the display of the extension icon in the Chrome toolbar, the three-dot menu shows links to settings, options to remove the extension, and also some actions if available.

The new extensions menu shows the permissions of the tabs and installed. You will find everything that is currently available under Installed. The permissions are new and a click on the tab shows all installed extensions and their rights to read and change data on the live site. Three states are currently supported: always, always on all sites, and when I click the extension.
Some extensions may require specific permission settings; this is the case with content blockers or other extensions that are activated on page load. Other extensions may not need access to all sites all the time; this may be the case with translation extensions or extensions that help you search for information.
Permissions can be changed using the new menu. Google seems to focus the permissions tab for read and write access only. Other permissions may be requested by extensions, but these are not currently listed.
The new permissions menu is currently in testing. Chrome users running the canary version can enable it as follows:
- Load chrome://flags/#extensions-menu-access-control in the browser’s address bar.
- Set the preference status to Enabled.
- reiniciar Chrome
Note that the flag is available in stable versions of Chrome, but the full functionality is not yet implemented.
The read and write permissions of each extension can be managed from the extensions menu from now on. Chrome users can also access the settings on the extensions page in the Chrome browser currently. The new option improves the visibility of the option for users.
