Crucial announces the closure of its Ballistix sub-brand, leaves the RAM market to dedicate itself 100% to SSDs

Through a press release, Micron announced that it has decided to readjust its business strategy for its RAM memories aimed at the Crucial enthusiast public. As a result, Micron discontinued the Ballistix, Ballistix Max, and Ballistix Max RGB lines.

It’s not clear why Micron abandoned its only family of enthusiast RAM. However, the company said in the statement that “will intensify its focus on developing Micron’s product roadmap for DDR5 clients and serversalong with the expansion of Crucial’s memory (for servers) and storage product portfolio.”

The end of Ballistix

The Ballistix series, which has been around since the dawn of DDR, was the only enthusiast memory Crucial had in its arsenal. Now we understand why the company never made the transition to the new DDR5 standard. However, Crucial sells memory under the JEDEC DDR5 standard and will continue to do so. These standard memory modules do not have heat sinks or other finishes.
