CryptoKicks Nike - registered by the sports equipment manufacturer

Sporting goods manufacturer Nike has registered a patent for an NFT token called CryptoKicks. The patent dated December 10 describes a digital methodology for selling and promoting Nike products. An implementation of the technology described in the document is an Ethereum ERC721 or ERC1155 token used to authenticate and trade a pair of sports shoes.

The token will be “unlocked” with the purchase of the shoes by tying a 10-digit identification code with the owner’s identification code. Apparently the system aims to offer a way to ensure the authenticity of the goods:

“Potential and current owners can […] buy and sell digital assets through one or more blockchain registries operating on the decentralized computing system. […] For example, a user may purchase a new pair of highly sought-after sports shoes from a verified supplier who can provide authenticated footwear records. […] After receiving the package, the user will scan the barcode in a special application that works on the smartphone. “

Nike claims that this system will allow to verify the origin of the footwear in circulation:

“When a consumer purchases an authentic pair of shoes, a digital representation of them can be generated, linked to the consumer and associated with a cryptographic token, in which the digital shoe and the cryptographic token represent a ‘CryptoKick’.”

Interestingly, these unique shoes can also be “multiplied”, similar to the CryptoKitties game:

“Using the digital asset, the buyer has the opportunity to trade or sell the pair of tangible shoes, trade or sell the digital shoe, store the digital shoe in a crypto wallet or” multiply “the digital shoe with another model to create” descendants”. Based on the limits imposed by the shoe production rules, it is possible that new custom footwear models can be created as a pair of new and tangible shoes. “
