Dedicated video cards, a $ 11.8 billion market in Q2 2021

The market for AIB video cards, that is the dedicated ones made by NVIDIA, AMD and soon also by Intel with the Arc proposals based on “Alchemist” GPUs expected in the first quarter of 2022, has literally exploded in the last year with a boom of 179% for a turnover of 11.8 billion dollars. A very high value, which however is 5% lower than in the first quarter of 2021.

The analysis of Q2 2021 carried out by analysts of Jon Peddie Resarch tells us that NVIDIA has overwhelming leadership of 80%, with an increase of 0.3% on Q1 2021 and 2% on Q2 2020. Analysts say that both NVIDIA and AMD have increased their desktop video card shipments year-on-year, with a slight 2.9% decline on Q1 2021, in view of a trend linked to the seasonality of the sector.

The IAB market has caught up $ 29 billion in 2020 and JPR expects to reach $ 44.1 billion by 2023. “Intel’s entry into the market could, due to the strength of their brand and position with OEMs, create an increase in units delivered and total addressable market (TAM), which is the overall size of the market.”

We recall that in recent days JPR had analyzed the GPU market as a whole, that is, also taking into account the dedicated GPUs for notebooks and the GPUs integrated in the microprocessors, registering a growth of 37% over the same period of 2020 in terms of units and an even more NVIDIA leader if in addition to desktop video cards are also counted dedicated GPUs for notebooks: the company led by Jensen Huang rises to 83% compared to 17% of AMD.
