BRUSSELS, 29 Aug – PRIME. The European Commission (EC) considers it necessary to ensure that gas prices do not have a dominant influence on the price of electricity in the EU market, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a conference in Germany, which is broadcast on the EC website.
“We are going to reform the electricity market. Currently, gas dominates the prices in the electricity market … this situation has been around for a long time … we must share it,” she said, noting the very high cost of “blue fuel”.
Von der Leyen also said that a faster response to the current situation on the electricity market in the European Union is being prepared.
“We are now discussing what kind of intervention we will take … we are working with EU countries,” she said.
“We need an urgent tool that could be activated very quickly, perhaps within weeks … then a deep and structural reform of the energy market will have to take place. I think it will appear at the beginning of next year,” said the head of the EC.
