EC wants gas price not to dominate EU electricity price

BRUSSELS, 29 Aug – PRIME. “We are going to reform the electricity market. Currently, gas dominates the prices in the electricity market … this situation has been around for a long time … we must share it,” she said, noting the very high cost of “blue fuel”.

Von der Leyen also said that a faster response to the current situation on the electricity market in the European Union is being prepared.

“We are now discussing what kind of intervention we will take … we are working with EU countries,” she said.

“We need an urgent tool that could be activated very quickly, perhaps within weeks … then a deep and structural reform of the energy market will have to take place. I think it will appear at the beginning of next year,” said the head of the EC.
