Estonian President accuses Russia of rising energy prices

HELSINKI, 3 Oct – PRIME. Estonian President Alar Karis believes that Russia is to blame for high energy prices.

According to the Office of the Head of State, on Monday, at the invitation of the President, the National Defense Council met to discuss issues related to energy security.

According to Karis, Russia is playing a dangerous game not only in Ukraine, but also with the energy security of all of Europe.

“I want all Estonians to know that it is Russia that has been behind high energy prices for a year already. Moscow’s goal is to drive Estonia and all of Europe into a corner, to force us to retreat from our principles and from supporting Ukraine,” the president said to the press. – conferences following the meeting of the Council for State Defense.

According to Karis, now Estonia must work hard to ensure energy security for the coming winter, and ensuring gas supply should be one of the most important tasks for the government.

“The National Defense Council has received comprehensive information about the risks and measures that would help to ensure light and heat in all Estonian homes this winter. Today, we are talking not only about the amounts that will have to be paid for room heat and electricity in winter, but also about other risks. Here I mean possible temporary interruptions in the supply of electricity, as well as gas supply during the heating season,” the President stressed.

The West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia over Ukraine, which led to higher prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy for the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that Russia will solve all the problems that the West creates for it.
