Mining RX 5700 XT on a New Driver: Overclocking, Settings, Profitability, ‘Power Supply/Consumption‘, Firmware: On July 7, 2019 the AMD company introduced to the market a new line of video cards of the generation Navi RX5700 series. There are three types of video cards of this lineup: RX5700; RX5700XT; RX5700XT 50th Anniversary Edition. They use chips based on the latest 7nm FinFET semiconductor technology and should theoretically offer the best energy efficiency in mining due to the reduced size of electronic components and lower current consumption.
The number 50, which is used in the marking of AMD RX5700 graphics cards, marks the 50th anniversary of the company, which it celebrated in 2019. For the first time in this series, AMD graphics cards use memory controllers with support for GDDR6 technology.
Packaging and appearance of AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT for ETH
The packaging design and appearance of Navi graphics adapters have not undergone significant changes. Several turbine-cooled video cards are offered, which are not recommended for installing in a GPU-rig due to the increased noise level, as well as models with two and three fans.
Some manufacturers such as Sapphire and PowerColor use decorative elements in the external design of the product. Almost all graphics adapters of this series have a metal backplate covering the back. On the side there are HDMI and DisplayPort inputs for connecting monitors, and in the upper right corner there is an 8 pin + 6 pin additional power connector. Many video adapters have a red backlight for the Radeon logo.
It seems that the modern trend “if the card is off, then it is not playable” began to prevail in AMD reference devices as well. However, it is unlikely that anyone will sleep in the same room with a working mining farm and, therefore, illumination will not create problems for anyone at night. Moreover, it is not too bright. The video cards are equipped with a cooling system with an aluminum radiator, copper pipes, fans with dispersion blades. The shroud has openings on the sides to improve airflow efficiency.

The key feature of Navi video accelerators is RDNA technology, which includes not only microarchitecture, but also successful technological developments of previous generations. The company did not make life difficult for itself and decided to improve the current Zen processors, rightly believing that the proven technology will be able to unleash its full potential on the new architecture.
Basically, the card is well-charged right out of the box and, most likely, manual overclocking will not affect the hash rate much.
RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 in ETH mining: hashrate on different algorithms
The efficiency of mining on Navi video cards from different manufacturers may differ by 5-7%. Much depends on the driver version, as well as the mining software.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700XT: Ethereum Mining – GPU Overclocking
Navi GPUs work with Ethash mining software Claymore’s Miner, PhoenixMiner, as well as WildRigMulti, xmr-stak and lolMiner utilities. For example, PhoenixMiner is a simple 5700XT-enabled ETH miner that works great with Windows. Other utilities do their job just fine. To work, you also need to install one of the latest AMD video driver (at least 19.9.1). For overclocking, it is recommended to use the OverdriveNTool program.
Overclocking instructions:
- Download the program from the developer page https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/overdriventool-tool-for-amd-gpus.416116/
- Unpack it to a convenient place on the disk.
- Open the settings.
- Write down the parameters of the core and memory frequencies.
- Perform undervolting.
- Set the cooler rotation mode: maximum allowable temperature, power limit
- Save the profile, click Apply.
Now you need to create a bat-file in which the r command resets the settings for all video cards, and then the r command applies the profile you saved to them.
The executable file must be saved to the OverdriveNTool.exe folder and a shortcut must be created on it, which is placed in Windows startup.
Sample batch file for 5 video cards:
- @echo Overdrive downvolt setting up
- @echo off
- timeout 90
- OverdriveNTool.exe -r0 -r1 -r2 -r3 -r4 -r5
- timeout 15
- OverdriveNTool.exe -p0″1″ -p1″1″ -p2″1″ -p3″1″ -p4″1″ -p5″1″
You can of course install MSI Afterburner overclocking and downvolting software. But OverdriveNTool will provide a better and more reliable result.
The recommended parameters for ether mining are shown in the screenshot. You can carefully experiment with overclocking, you may achieve better performance.
AMD Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT: ETH mining – how to reduce the power consumption of video cards?
You can adjust the power consumption of cards in mining using the OverdriveNTool program. Testing has shown that the cards can run stably at a core voltage of 860mV at 1700, drawing 115W from an outlet on a Corsair 80+ Gold block. At the same time, they demonstrate a speed of 52Mh / s, for comparison, the RX 580 card overclocks to 30Mh / s with 89W consumption. Bios 5700 can be replaced with firmware from the older RX 5700 XT model, this will slightly improve its performance.
AMD Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700XT: ETH mining – profitability and ROI
On the WhatToMine service, you can calculate the GPU performance. The current income of the RX 5700 XT is $ 4.26 per day. The RX 5700 card has $ 4.23, including electricity costs. With the cost of the card in the region of 80,000 – 100,000 rubles, the payback will be 256 – 320 days. Basically, the RX 5700 and RX 5700XT for ETH and altcoin mining on NiceHash (in this case, the profit will be less – $ 3.75 and $ 3.9, respectively) is not a bad option.
