EU Energy Ministers to Discuss Gas Price Limits on September 9

MOSCOW, Sep 1 — PRIME. On September 9, EU energy ministers will discuss the introduction of gas price limits in the region at an extraordinary meeting on September 9, Mechthild Wörsdörfer, deputy head of the European Commission’s energy directorate, said in the profile committee of the European Parliament.

“Price caps: we’re looking at that. We’ll listen to the extraordinary energy council first,” the official said, adding that the European Commission could present concrete options for such caps after mid-September.

“Then we will also present what the specific options are, after the speech (on the state of the EU on September 14 – ed.) and discussions with parliament,” Wörsdörfer said.

In addition, the European Commission is working on emergency measures for the European Union to respond to increased electricity prices, the official said.

“We are looking at short-term, emergency measures, how we can avoid these huge bills… Work is underway on emergency measures on electricity prices, maybe something to reduce the demand for electricity,” she said.

Wörsdörfer also indicated that the EC plans to launch an energy savings campaign in the region in September.
