EVGA RTX 3090 Kingpin has a strange, unique PCB – that’s how it’s done

Nvidia, with the GeForce RTX 3000 video cards of the line Founders Edition, has adopted a PCB with a finale to V designed to allow the peculiar cooling system to work at its best. A more compact and dense PCB, which at the moment remains exclusive to the company, while the partners continue to build custom models with the classic rectangular printed circuit. The only one exception, if we want to call it that, is THE extreme card par excellence, the RTX 3090 Kingpin Hybrid Gaming di EVGA (more details here).

The South Korean Quasar Zone site had the opportunity to try the card discovering not only that it is a monster of power at the service of extreme overclockers (it is designed for those who use liquid nitrogen), but also a more unique product than rare due to the Particularly shaped PCB, which widens at one point to accommodate the 23-phase VRM (three more than a Founders RTX 3090) 60A MPS MP86956.

Another difference from Founders concerns the power connectors: With this generation of Founders, Nvidia introduced a 12-pin (300W) PCI Express with dimensions similar to a classic 8-pin connector, while manufacturers have continued to use classic connectors. In the case of the EVGA proposal there are three 8-pin PCIe that allow you to have 450W available (plus 75W from the PCI Express slot).

EVGA’s proposal is also equipped with high quality components and specific functions dedicated to the OC as a connector PROBEIT for connecting devices for real-time reading of GPU operating parameters. Who knows if in the future, thanks to the rumored passage of video cards to “multi chip module” (MCM) projects, we will see further evolutions in terms of design. Nvidia and EVGA show that getting out of the canons is possible, but obviously everything must respect a technical logic and above all not increase production costs.
