Ex-Prime Minister of Moldova predicted the country’s debt to Gazprom in autumn

MOSCOW, Sep 2 — PRIME. Moldova runs the risk of accumulating almost $22 million in debt to Gazprom in September, former Prime Minister Ion Chicu said.

The head of “Moldovagaz” warned of a new increase in gas tariffs in the country

“Today, Moldovagaz pays Gazprom for the supplied gas – $1.88 per cubic meter. This means that a cubic meter of gas costs about 40 lei ($2.06) at the border, including 8% VAT. Even if we do not accept taking into account the additional costs of the operator for distributing gas to consumers throughout the country, with an internal tariff of 23 lei (1.12 dollars) per cubic meter, Moldovagaz accumulates a debt to Gazprom of about 17 lei (0.9 dollars) for each delivered cubic meter of gas Considering the average gas consumption for September (about 25 million cubic meters), this means the accumulation of a debt to Gazprom of about 425 million lei (almost $ 22 million) of the right bank in September alone. In reality, the operator’s losses are much higher, because the impact cannot be ignored sales costs,” Kiku wrote in the Telegram messenger.

According to the ex-premier, the accumulation of debt is a “bomb for the future”, and the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PDS), which fully controls the parliament, government and other institutions of power, will not be able to ensure the country’s energy security.

“At this pace, the PDS will double its debt to the Russians in a very short time, and playing ‘audit’ cannot ensure the energy security of the country,” Chicu stressed.
