Five companies announced the withdrawal from the Libra project

Five members of the Libra association – Visa, Mastercard, eBay, Stripe and Mercado Pago – announced their withdrawal from the project.

All companies published statements in which they expressed respect for the views of Facebook and assured that they would closely monitor the project, but at the moment they decided to direct their efforts to other developments.

“We greatly respect the view of the Libra association, but eBay decided to withdraw from the project. We want to focus on creating new payment options for our customers, ”said an eBay spokesman.

Visa stressed that it sees great potential in blockchain technology, especially for international payments, but also decided to exit the project.

“Visa has decided not to participate in Libra at the moment. We will continue to assess the situation and our final decision will be determined by a number of factors, including Libra’s ability to fully satisfy all the requirements of regulatory authorities, ”the company said in a statement.
