Fix Unable to Click Taskbar in Windows 11

Are you in a situation where the taskbar is frozen and not responding to any of the mouse clicks? A lot of users have come across this issue where they can’t click and open the start menu, can’t open any pinned apps, or system and notification icons from the system tray. Typically, this clickable taskbar issue is seen after a Windows update.

In this article, you will find some fixes that can help you make the taskbar responsive to mouse clicks. Check if restarting your PC help to solve the problem before checking the solutions mentioned below.

Solution 1: restart Windows Explorer

1. Press Ctrl + Mayús + Esc using your keyboard to open the Task Manager.

2. Go to Processes tab.

3. Locate the Windows Explorer in the list and click the Restart button.

4. Windows Explorer restarts and the taskbar dims and reappears. Check if the taskbar is responding now.

Solution 2: re-register the taskbar with PowerShell

1. Use the Tecla de Windows + R to open the To run dialogue.

2. Type potencia Shell and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open Potencia Shell as administrator.

3. Copy and paste the command below and press Get into to run it.

4. Wait for the command to complete execution and ignore any errors or warnings that arise.

5. Restart your system and check if the problem with the taskbar is solved.

Solution 3: use the Windows troubleshooter

There may be certain applications on the system that lock the taskbar and in turn make it unclickable. You will need to run the Windows Store app, performance, and system maintenance troubleshooter to see if it helps to fix this problem.

Using the system maintenance and performance troubleshooter

1. Open To run using the combination of Windows y R keys.

2. Type the command below to open the System Maintenance Troubleshooter.

%systemroot%system32msdt.exe -id MaintenanceDiagnostic

3. In the troubleshooter that opens, click Advanced.

4. Make sure to check the box next to Apply repairs automatically.

5. Click next to start the troubleshooter. Wait until the troubleshooter detects any problems and provides some suitable solutions.

6. Use the following command to open the Performance troubleshooter.

%systemroot%system32msdt.exe -id PerformanceDiagnostic

7. Follow the instructions on the screen and complete the troubleshooting process.

8. Restart your PC and see if the taskbar is now clickable.

Using the Windows Store app troubleshooter

1. Open Run (Windows key + R).

2. Type ms-settings: troubleshoot to open Windows troubleshooter.

3. Click Other troubleshooters On the right side.

4. In the Another troubleshooter page, scroll down and find Windows Store apps.

5. Click To run associate with Windows Store apps.

6. Wait for the troubleshooter to start the diagnostic to find the problems. If there is any problem, it will provide you with a solution.

7. Restart your PC and see if the taskbar works smoothly.

Solution 4 – Run the DISM Restore Health tool

1. Press Windows + S and write cmd in the search box.

2. The right button of the mouse upon Symbol of the system in the results and choose Execute as an administrator.

3. Click Yes if requested by the User account control.

4. Use the following command to run the DISM tool.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

5. Once the command is run, restart your system and check if the taskbar is working.

Solution 5: run a full Windows Defender scan

1. Press Windows + S and write security in the search box.

2. Select the option Windows security on the list.

3. Click the Protection against viruses and threats tab on the left panel.

4. On the right side, click Scan options.

5. From the list of scan options, choose the option Complete analisis.

6. Click Scan now to start the scanning process.

7. Wait for the scan to complete. Restart your PC and check if the problem is solved.

Solution 6 – Update graphics drivers

1. Press Tecla de Windows + R to open To run.

2. Type devmgmt.msc to open Device administrator.

3. Double click upon Display adapters to expand it.

4. The right button of the mouse on the graphics card and click Update driver.

5. In the wizard that opens, choose Search for drivers automatically.

6. Wait for the process to complete.

7. Restart your PC and check if the problem is solved.

Solution 7 – Perform system restore

1. Open To run using the Windows keys and R on your keyboard.

2. Type rstrui to open System restore.

3. Select the option Choose a different restore point. Click on Next.

4. Cheque the box next to Show more restore points.

5. Please select a restore point from the time when the taskbar had no problems.

6. Click next.

7. Finally, click End up to start the restore process.

8. Follow the instructions to restore your PC.

9. After the system boots after a restore, you should be able to use the taskbar.

Solution 8: create a new user account

1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.

2. Choose the Accounts tab on the left panel.

3. On the right side, select Family and other users.

4. Now click on the Add Account button next to Add another user.

5. In the Microsoft account window, click on the link I do not have the login information for this person.

6. Now choose the option Add a user without a Microsoft account.

7. Here you need to provide the desired username and password for the new user you are creating. Also, set the security question and answers.

8. Click next to create the new user.

9. Once the user is created, log in with the new local account to see if the taskbar problem is fixed.
