Fix Windows Media Player Error Cannot Record Some Files On Windows 11/10

windows media player is a Microsoft application available for Windows operating system users to play multimedia files. It also supports a recording function that allows users to copy audio, video, and images from their personal computers to a blank CD or DVD. However, there have been many users who have encountered an error message. Windows Media Player cannot record some of the files when they try to use the recording function of the Media Player to record audio or video files.

Generally, this error can occur due to a problem with files being burned or a corrupted installation of Windows Media Player. Solution 1: change media player privacy settings

1. Inicie Windows Media Player.

2. Click Organize and choose Options … in the drop-down menu.

3. Go to Privacy tab.

4. Mark off all options in the Improved device and playback experience section.

5. Click Request and then in OK to confirm the configuration changes.

6. Relaunch Media Player and see if you can burn your files without any errors.

Solution 2: uncheck volume leveling

1. Open Media Player.

2. Click the Instruments menu and select Options …

Note: If the menu bar is hidden, press Ctrl + M to view it and then click Instruments.

3. In the Options window, go to the Burn tab.

4. You will see an option Apply volume leveling on tracks in the Audio CD section. Mark off the box associated with it.

5. Click Request and then in it’s fine.

6. Check if the problem has been solved while performing a write operation.

Solution 3: remove invalid files from burn list

1. Inicie Windows Media Player.

2. Go to Burn tab to the right of the player window.

3. Here you can drag and drop files that need to be burned.

4. Once you have added all the necessary files, click Start burning.

5. Now if you see the error message, click it’s fine.

6. You will see unsupported files indicated by a red circle with a white X on the burn list.

7. Here, the right button of the mouse in these unsupported files and choose Remove from the list one at a time until all those files are deleted.

8. Now click Start burning to check if the problem is solved.

Solution 4: uncheck the read-only attribute for files

1. Go to the folder who has the multimedia files to be used to burn to a CD or DVD.

2. Press Ctrl + A to select all files in this location.

3. The right button of the mouse on them and choose Properties.

4. Uncheck the box next to Read only at Attributes section.

5. Click Request and then in OK to save the settings.

6. Close and reopen Windows Media Player. Add these files to burn and check if the burn operation works without generating the error.

Solution 5: remove unnecessary characters in the file name

Sometimes file names with unnecessary characters like periods, special characters (accented characters or non-native English characters) or repeating characters have been a problem for some of the users.

1. Open the folder where the files are located.

2. Look for files that have unnecessary characters in your name.

3. Select this file and click the Rename icon at the top.

4. Remove no special characters or dots and then hit Get into to save this new name.

5. Again, the right button of the mouse in this file and select Properties.

6. Go to Details tab in the Properties window.

7. Look for any unnecessary characters in the Title, album name, artist, etc.

8. Remove if there is any.

9. Click Request and then in it’s fine.

10. Repeat the above Steps 3 – 9 for all files with unnecessary characters in their name.

11. Now go back to your Windows Media Player and check if the burn operation can be done without any error.
