Gazprom confirms uninterrupted supplies to Hungary via Turkish Stream
BUDAPEST, September 30 — PRIME. Gazprom has confirmed to Hungary that the Turkish Stream gas pipeline is operating smoothly and Budapest receives all the gas in full, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
“Today, alarming information appeared in connection with the Turkish Stream. We immediately contacted Gazprom, where we confirmed that the pipeline is operating smoothly and will continue to do so.
The pipeline operator, Dutch-registered South Stream Transport BV, said on Thursday that new EU sanctions on September 18 led to early revocation of the company’s export license. However, the company assured that supplies through the pipeline would not be affected, and said that they had already applied for the renewal of the license, since it is important for Europe’s energy security.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban held talks with Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Mustafa Sentop the day before. The parties discussed the expansion of gas transit capacities in the East-West direction. Orban noted that by joining the Turkish Stream, Turkey has become one of the most important transit countries for gas supplies to Hungary.
