GeForce RTX 3000 LHR: limiter bypassed 100%, this time for real

Since when NVIDIA introduced video cards to the market GeForce LHR (Lite Hash Rate)operators and enthusiasts of the sector have sought solutions to circumvent the limiter and restore the full potential of GPUs in mining Ethereum and cryptocurrencies based on the same algorithms. Well, after more than a year, NiceHash developers have succeeded.

After reporting performance back to 70% versus the 50% set by NVIDIA in August last year, NiceHash developers have managed to restore 100% performance on most GPUs on the market. At the moment, the GeForce RTX 3050 and RTX 3080 12 GB models remain out of this conquest, which seem to have an updated limiter that is more difficult to get around.

The release works, for now, only on the Windows operating system and only supports the DaggerHashimoto (Etash) algorithm. “We are very excited to tell you that NiceHash QuickMiner (Excavator) is the first mining software to FULLY (100%) UNLOCK LHR cards! Now you can earn more profits than any other mining software on the market if you are using LHR graphics cards with NiceHash QuickMiner. Support for NiceHash Miner is coming soon“, it is read in a post.

A Polish site, Benchmark.pl, has verified NiceHash’s claims with a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, finding that they are correct: from the 85-88 MH / s observed previously, the card went up to 117 MH / s. Does this mean that miners will return to buying GeForce GPUs en masse? At the moment it is difficult to think so for several reasons: from the next transition of Ethereum to the PoS to economic phenomena such as inflation and the high cost of electricity, all elements that impact on the effective return linked to mining.

UPDATE:

NBMiner on Windows and Linux also allows you to take full advantage of the GeForce RTX 3000 LHR, at least according to the release notes of the latest software version published on Github.
