At the moment, the Attorney General’s Office, together with the US Department of Justice, are conducting an antitrust investigation against Google and are going to file a claim with the court.
According to the source, the North American IT giant is being accused of using control over the world’s most popular browser, Google Chrome, in the interests of promoting its own search engine, allowing it to maintain a dominant position in the online advertising market.
Representatives of the US authorities said that such a policy is dishonest in relation to other players and, accordingly, may violate US law. In this regard, officials consider it necessary to weaken Google’s influence on the market by separating Chrome from it. Based on the same considerations, the authorities want to force the company to sell part of the lucrative Internet advertising business, the total capital of which, according to various estimates, is about $ 160 billion.
It is also known that later the Ministry of Justice is going to send another lawsuit to the court, in which it is planned to raise the issue of the possible unfair use of the Android mobile operating system by the company for the same commercial purposes. Experts fear that potential losses could have serious consequences for the American IT giant.
Official hearings on the first lawsuit against Google may begin in the next two weeks. Other tech companies such as Apple, Amazon and Facebook have also come under suspicion of the authorities. No one has yet undertaken to predict how the possible redistribution of the Internet market will end and what its consequences will be for the future of the global Internet industry.
