Google Tensor’s performance is starting to bother. What will this SoC enable?

We expected that the original Google Tensor SoC would not be one of the most efficient systems in the competition, but we did not expect something like that. However, as is clear from the leak on Twitter 9 leaks, Google Tensor’s raw performance is very low. Is system optimization enough? Let’s hope so

While the performance of Google Tensor is worrying, most likely Google knows what it is doing

Google was to develop its SoC Tensor mainly with energy efficiency and, above all, performance in computing with artificial intelligence in mind, for which it will dominate the market … apparently. But it was confirmed by one @heyitsyogesh in response to the following Twitter post:

Above you can see the Geekbench 5 result with the participation of SoC Tensor from Google and A12 Bionic from Apple, i.e. equipment that has not even made its debut and one that has been on the market for three years. The comparison leaves no thread on Google – Pixel 6 Pro loses significantly to the iPhone XS Max 2018. But is there anything to worry about?

Google has abandoned Qualcomm’s solutions for a reason, because it had reasons (overheating Pixele 5a), but this does not mean that it can now forget about the performance and smoothness of its smartphones. So, most likely, Google has made a significant effort on the optimization side, making the SoC even less efficient in raw calculations to ensure smooth system operation. This, in turn, will have a direct impact on battery life… or at least that’s what our intuition tells us. How will it actually be? The future will answer this question.
