GPU, deliveries up 12% in one year. NVIDIA always in great shape

Jon Peddie Research ha data for the third quarter released relating to GPU market, a sector that despite always talking about shortage continues to run with shipments that have reached in three months 101 million units overall between CPUs with integrated graphics, dedicated video cards and GPUs for laptops.

With this in mind, there are three manufacturers who share the market: Intel, AMD and NVIDIA. Compared to the second quarter, Intel lost a 6.2% stake, AMD grew 1.4% and NVIDIA rose 4.8%.

Overall, GPU shipments were down 18.2% from last quarter, with AMD (-11.4%) and Intel (-25.6%) in contraction against a NVIDIA who scored a +8%. However, the total figure is up by 12% when compared to the same period of 2020.

“The third quarter has always been stronger better than the second, but the recession and the pandemic have altered the seasonality,” emphasizes Jon Peddie Research, adding that the supply chain will show signs of instability throughout 2022.

Focusing on the dedicated video card market only, also called AIB (add-in board), deliveries grew 10.9% from the second quarter. We still don’t know what the strengths between NVIDIA and AMD are in this regard, but adding up the dedicated GPUs for notebooks and desktops, NVIDIA maintains a clear leadership with 83% compared to 17% of AMD. The data is likely to be similar even looking at the desktop video card sector alone as NVIDIA has been fundamentally stable for some time around 80%.
