Gran Turismo 7 becomes Sony’s worst rated game on Metacritic

Gran Turismo 7 vs Driveclub

It seems that one of the great games of the year for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 is being a fairly prominent failure, and this is none other than the Grand Touring 7which has the dubious pleasure of being the worst Sony game in the last 27-year history of PlayStation Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment, SCEA, SCEE or SCEJ, and users have rated the game negatively to the point to submit a score of 2.5 points out of 10 on Metacritic.

Gran Turismo 7 thus takes the record from games like World of Warriors of PS4 (2.9), NBA 10: The Inside PSP (3.0) and Cool Boarders 2001 from PSOne (3.3). However, while those titles only have a handful of user reviews, Gran Turismo 7 currently has more than 3,800 reviews. That is if, as always, the specialized press gives it a score of 87 out of 100 pointsthat is, an 8.7.

It is not surprising that the vast majority of user reviews took place from March 17which was when the game received a patch to add increased emphasis on unlocking vehicles with real moneywhich then led to additional problems that required take down the servers for more than 24 hours in a game that requires connection to these servers to work.

Moreover, before the patch, the vehicles already cost 8 times more than the prices of the Gran Turismo Sport. If we add to this that it is also more difficult to get credits within the game, then the great Pay-to-Win aspect of this game is clear.

“Was a [gran] Gran Turismo fan,” reads one review. “I’ve played this game since GT1 on PS1. Yes, the driving physics are great, yes, the cars are beautiful. However, all of this is meaningless due to an extremely short career mode and tied to obvious money gains from its microtransactions, which have worsened after single-player race payouts have been reduced. GT has always been a heavy game, but it was never that bad.”

Adds another: “It pains me to give it a 0. Game feel is great and controller support is great. Graphics are great. Early content is there, but the microtransactions…$38 real money to buy a single? Ford GT?

“And also to reduce the amount of money you get just by playing the game with the latest patch? And the loot boxes are rigged so you always get the lowest reward. I’ll change this review to a 10 when it’s actually possible to buy cars with the money won in the game.”

As if that wasn’t enough, at the moment of truth visual quality not only leaves much to be desired when watching games like Forza Motorsport 7 released in 2017, but even another PlayStation exclusive, drive clubreleased in 2014 for PlayStation 4, is not that bad looking considering that it was released 8 years ago on much less powerful hardware.
