Graphics card manufacturers positive about increased interest in cryptocurrencies

Over the past year, the mining of cryptocurrencies has been a controversial topic in the graphics card world, where, among others, Nvidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said that the company has seen great interest in this and that the trend looks set to continue in the future. Both AMD and Nvidia have also launched special graphics card models for the purpose.

Digitimes now reports that many large graphics card manufacturers have also begun to take the trend more seriously, having previously been skeptical. Among others, Asus, MSI and Gigabyte have increased their sales of both AMD and Nvidia-based graphics cards due to the increased interest in mining cryptocurrencies.

This has also led to increased revenues from the manufacturers, where Sapphire, among others, went from loss to profit during the second quarter of the year due to this. For Gigabyte, this has meant that the company’s profit from graphics card sales has exceeded the same for motherboard sales, something that according to Digitimes has not happened before.

Asus is the company that has been among the last to jump on the trend and they predict that this will continue for the rest of the year. They therefore plan to increase their presence in the area in the coming quarter.
