Graphics card prices will rise until the third quarter of the year

The year 2017 has been marked by rising prices for graphics cards worldwide. This can primarily be attributed to the increased interest in mining cryptocurrencies, which has led to a very high demand that has not been met by either AMD or Nvidia with rising prices as a result.

It is now clear that it may take even longer before prices stabilize. In a now edited post by the retailer Massdrop’s purchasing manager Brian Hutchins, Nvidia is said to have told during a visit about continued rising prices right into the third quarter of the year.

While NVIDIA was here they also let us know that the pricing in the market will continue to go up through Q3 of this year most likely before we start seeing any type of relief. So, unfortunately the end to this is not right around the corner and we have not seen the worst of it yet.

Nvidia has neither confirmed nor denied the post, but in that case it would be in line with previous information that speaks for an average increase of up to SEK 200 for graphics cards in 2018.

It also raises questions about whether it could lead to a delay in the next generation of Geforce graphics cards, which were previously expected to be launched on March 26 at the GPU Technology Conference 2018.
