H670, B660 and H610 chipset specs leaked, revealing what to expect from motherboards

The H670, B660 and H610 chipsets will be announced next month, and the renowned leaker “momomo_us”Just leaked their specs, confirming what to expect from motherboards that use them.

As we can see in this table of specifications, on the memory side there will be the possibility of incorporating DDR4 or DDR5 with any of the chipsets, something that is not surprising since the memory controller is in the CPU and therefore the memory type support does not depend on which chipset is being used. Even so, to increase segmentation, Intel establishes a BIOS lock to the use of memory above 3200MHz in H610, while motherboards with B660, H670 or Z690 will be able to use up to the maximum frequency that the motherboard supports. Speaking of OC limits per BIOS, the CPU can only be overclocked on Z690, something classic from Intel that always locks the CPU OC on “Non-Z” chipsets.

Regarding the PCI-E lines of the CPU, B660 will allow to separate the PCIe 5.0 lines of the CPU in x8 / x8 if the manufacturer wants to offer two PCI-E 5.0 slots instead of just one, while in B660 and H610 Intel will only allow manufacturers put a single PCI-E 5.0 slot, which will have 16 lines. In addition, the four PCI-E 4.0 lanes of the CPU can be used without problem in H670 and B660, while Intel will not allow their use in H610.

On the PCI lane side of the chipset, H670 will offer 12 PCI-E 4.0 lanes plus 12 PCI-E 3.0 lanes to offer multiple M.2 or high-speed Ethernet ports, B660 will offer 6 PCIe 4.0 lanes plus 8 PCI-E lanes 3.0, and H610 will only offer 8 PCI-E 3.0 lanes, so there will be no PCI-E 4.0 lanes available on H610 as the CPU lanes cannot be used either. Also, the DMI 4.0 connection that connects the CPU with the chipset in B660 and H610 will be only 4 lines, having half the bandwidth of the H670 chipset, which is 8 lines, although this will not be a big problem anymore. that there is not too much I / O on the B660 and H610 either.

In short, the H670 will offer practically all the benefits of the Z690 without CPU OC support, the B660 will offer a few less PCI-E lanes but sufficient for most users, and the H610 will be for entry-level PCs without M.2 PCI-E 4.0 SSDs or memories above 3200MHz.

The first motherboards with these chipsets are expected to arrive in late January 2022 alongside “No-K” processors such as the Core i5-12400 and Core i3-12100, among others. We will keep you updated as new information becomes known about them.
