How do you pronounce the "Ti" of Nvidia GPUs? Not even they know

It is a question that millions of NVIDIA fans have been asking for a few years, or rather since the company began adding the Ti designation to its most powerful GPUs, such as the RTX 3090 Ti that the company just announced at CES 2022.

The million dollar question is, How do you pronounce Ti? Within Nvidia itself there are two options, and both were mentioned in yesterday’s presentation. Some pronounce it as “tai”, while others mention the T and I separately (te-i).

Should it be called “GeForce” or “Gee-Eee Force”? Of course not. Is it said “Ertex” instead of RTX? Either. But NVIDIA has let the debate build little by little and somehow get out of hand, even though TI is over 20 years old, as it comes from the 2001 GeForce 2 Ti.

Here’s a video of NVIDIA Senior Vice President Jeff Fisher uttering “tie” many, many times during the launch of the RTX 3080 Ti last year:

And yet every time founder and CEO Jensen Huang (the public face of the company) talks about graphics cards in his kitchen, he says “tee-eye.”

When asked about the correct pronunciation, the company seemed to be at a loss as to what to say, and Nvidia’s director of corporate communications, Héctor Marinez, said that “there is no wrong way to pronounce Ti … as long as you spell it correctly.” .
