How to add a REG_BINARY registry value using command prompt

Registry entries are very important when it comes to an operating system. Many Windows settings can be easily modified using the Registry Editor. Editing registry settings on a computer is also a fairly easy task. But what if you want to export specific registry REG_BINARY values ​​from one computer and then import them onto another computer? Well, the REG ADD command is the answer to your problem.

In this article, we explain in detail how you can easily transfer a REG_BINARY value from one computer to another by following some very simple steps.

Note: Before proceeding with editing registry settings on any machine, it is strongly recommended that keep a backup of existing registry settings. You can check out our article here to learn how to back up the registry.

How to export the REG_BINARY value

Paso 1: Start the To run window by pressing the Win y R keys together. to write regedit and hit Get into wrench.

Paso 2: Navigate to the REG_BINARY value that you want to export. Now, right click on your folder and click the To export option.

Paso 3: Once the Export Log File window opens, choose a location and give a Name al to export proceedings. Click on the Save money button once done.

How to import and add the REG_BINARY value

Once you’ve backed up the registry, follow the steps below to import and add any REG_BINARY values ​​to your machine.

Paso 1: The first step would be transfer the file exported in the previous step to your destination computer. You can transfer the file via USB, an email client, or any other method of your choice.

Paso 2: Once the file is transferred to the destination computer, the right button of the mouse on it and click Show more options.

Paso 3: As below, click the Edit option.

Paso 4: Now search and find the REG_BINARY value you want to import. In the following example, the REG_BINARY Extended Base value will be imported.

Once the value is found, select everything after hex: for the respective register binary value, as shown in the screenshot below, and then press the keys CTRL y C together to copy the values.

Paso 5: Open a new notepad file and press the keys CTRL y V once for catch the content copied from Paso 4.

In the following steps, we would do remove all unwanted characters of the copied binary value, since the REG ADD command does not accept characters such as commas, backslashes, page breaks, etc.

Paso 6: First let’s remove the commas.

On the top ribbon, click the Edit next tab and then click Replace in the Edit options.

Paso 7: In the Replace window, below the field Find that, to write coma (,) and hit Replace everything button.

Paso 8: The comma-removed binary value would look like the following.

Paso 9: In the next step, remove all backslashes and page breaks manually or by using the Replace All method shown in Step 7.

The final value should look like the following screenshot with no additional characters.

Keep this value in Notepad itself. We will need it in the final step.

Paso 10: Now, we must start the command prompt in administrator mode. For that, click on the Look for on the taskbar.

Paso 11: In the search bar, writes on cmd. From the results, click Command Prompt Execute as an administrator option as shown below.

Paso 12: When the command prompt opens in administrator mode, we need to run the REG ADD command to add the REG_BINARY value. The command should be the following. In 3 places, the angle braces () must be removed.

REG ADD "<KEY_PATH>" /f /v "<KEY_NAME>" /t REG_BINARY /d <BINARY_VALUE>

and The values ​​can be obtained from the backup file that we transfer to the destination computer. The same backup file that we opened in Step 4.

is the value we formatted in Step 9.

After replacing all the values, an example command would look like the following.

Example: REG ADD "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlGroupOrderList" /f /v "Extended Base" /t REG_BINARY /d 0a0000000100000002000000040000000300000005000000060000000700000008000000090000000a000000

The final command will run at the elevated command prompt as shown below:

If you have everything correct, you will receive the message The operation was completed successfully. That is all. You have successfully added a REG_BINARY value to your Registry Editor using the REG ADD command.
