How to Fix AT&T U-verse Gateway Authentication Failure

Your Internet connection comes to you through an ISP. The ISP usually stays in the background; all you know is that your devices can connect to the router and everything is fine. If you are having trouble connecting to a particular website, the problems often lie with your internet settings or router settings. It is usually easy to solve.

Fix AT&T U-verse Gateway Authentication Failure

AT&T is one of the largest ISPs in the United States. Provides fast Internet and high-speed cable connections, as well as other services and products. You can usually rely on the uninterrupted service of the company. This is true for both the Internet and your cable service.

Of the many services and products that AT&T offers, the U-Verse TV service. It’s a TV delivered over a high-speed network connection, and like any other network connection, it can run into problems. If you see the Gateway Authentication error message on your U-Verse TV, try the solutions below.

1. Check the status of AT&T service

Before trying anything to fix the gateway authentication error, check to see if it’s on your end or if AT&T is experiencing a service outage. It happens and the company needs to fix it.

To check the status of the service, visit the company’s service status page. Alternatively, you can call the entire support line and they will tell you if there is an ongoing issue.

If there is a service interruption, it is AT & T’s responsibility to resolve it.

2. Power cycle modem

Try restarting the modem, that is, your router.

  1. Find the power button on the router.
  2. Hold down the button for 15 seconds.
  3. Release the button.
  4. Unplug the modem from the electrical outlet.
  5. Wait another 15 seconds.
  6. Connect the power plug to the modem.
  7. Press the power button to turn it on.
  8. Wait for the lights to stabilize.

3. Check for loose cables

If a cable is not securely connected to the router, you may see the gateway authentication error. Locate the router and make sure everything is connected securely. Try disconnecting and reconnecting it. Also, make sure everything is plugged into the correct port / socket.

4. Restart the router

Try resetting the router. The Gateway Authentication Failure error points to a problem with the network settings and if it is on your TV as well as other devices, you need to reset the network settings on the router.

  1. Look for the reset button on the router (this is different from the power button).
  2. Press and hold the reset button.
  3. When the lights on the router begin to flash, release the button.
  4. Wait for the lights to stabilize.
  5. The gateway authentication error should go away.

The gateway authentication failure error on a computer can have to do with all sorts of things; the browser, the computer’s network settings, the DNS settings, or the website you are trying to access. However, if you see the Gateway Authentication Failure error on all of your devices, your router or connection may be failing. If you are unfamiliar with resetting a router, you can contact AT&T for assistance.
