On the other hand, in Word you can use indents in a document to separate paragraphs and give it a cleaner and more orderly appearance. For this reason, the types of indents you can add in Word are explained below:

Usual indentation

Indentation is defined as the separation between paragraphs or blank spaces that are left or right margin. There are four types of indentation that can be used in a Word document according to its purpose. Next, let’s see what the other typographic indentations consist of:

Left or right indent

As the name implies, left indenting consists of separating all lines in a paragraph on the left side of the margin. On the contrary, the right indent allows you to move all the lines of the paragraph to the right side of the text margin. With them you can order the paragraphs visually giving hierarchy to the text.

First line indentation type

First-line indenting is adding a specified amount of white space to the first line of a paragraph. Its function is visually highlight the beginning or first line of a paragraph. To mark these separations you can place the ruler in Word to delimit the indentation.

How to create and add a French indentation in a Word project?

The French indentation is especially used in theses where authors are cited, or when doing some academic work, etc. It is a requirement to use French indentation in jobs such as those mentioned, since are part of the APA standards for the written presentation of formal works like these.

For this reason, in this part we want to teach you a way to add a french indent in a Word project from a Mac or Windows computer, since both have a different system.

Using Mac

Follow the steps below to add a French indentation on your Mac computer: first, you must select the text, then go to ‘Format’ and click on ‘Paragraph’. Once there, you must go to ‘Sangria and space’, go to the ‘Special’ option and select ‘French’.

On the other hand, you can do this procedure from the web version of Microsoft Word only if you have a correo Hotmail, Outlook o Live.

With Windows

You can apply a quick way to add a French indentation to your Word document in Windows, and that is by using the ‘Ctrl + F’ key combinationYou just have to make sure to place the push button on the paragraph or line you want to apply it to.

Another different method that will allow you edit the amount of separation in the indentation, is by selecting all the content to which you want to add the French indentation, then, you must right click where a series of options will be displayed, in which you have to select ‘Paragraph’. After this, go to the ‘Sangria’ option and go to ‘Special’ in order to click on ‘French Sangria’.

As soon as you’ve edited it, now just click OK and you’re done. Following this simple procedure you can easily apply a French indentation to your Word project in order to give a more formal style to your presentations.
