Apple regularly releases watchOS updates with new features and watch faces. watchOS 6, for example, comes with a new App Store app and cool new analog watch faces. Here’s how you can update your Apple Watch.
How to update Apple Watch using iPhone
Apple Watch updates are linked to the iPhone. For example, to update to watchOS 6 on your Apple Watch, you must first update your iPhone to iOS 13.
- First, open the “Settings” app on your iPhone and go to the “General” section.
- Now tap on the “Software Update” option.
- Here, if you are not running the latest version of iOS, tap “Download and Install”. If the update has already been downloaded, the “Install Now” button will appear.
- Enter the passcode to begin the installation.
- After updating the iPhone to the latest version, open the Watch app on your iPhone. From the “My Watch” tab, go to the “General” section.
- Here, tap on the “Software Update” option.
- Check for updates, then tap the “Download and Install” button.
- From the next screen, enter your device passcode. The installation will begin now.
Make sure your Apple Watch is plugged into the charger and within range of your Wi-Fi connected iPhone. The installation will only begin when the Apple Watch is at least 50 percent charged.

How to update the software from Apple Watch
With watchOS 6, Apple Watch is starting to become more independent of the iPhone. A prime example is the new App Store, which lets you download and update apps right from your wrist.
After updating to watchOS 6, all subsequent updates can be applied directly from Apple Watch, without touching the iPhone.
- To do this, press the “Digital Crown” on the Apple Watch to open the Honeycomb Apps screen.
- Here, tap “Settings” and select “General”.
- Now tap on “Software Update”.
- As long as Apple Watch is connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network, you’ll see the update available. Scroll down and then tap “Download and Install”.
- Now put the Apple Watch on its charger and make sure it’s connected to Wi-Fi. The installation will begin after the Apple Watch has at least a 50 percent charge.
After updating to watchOS 6, go to app App Store, it will allow you to download update apps directly from your wrist.
