IAEA head to hold consultations in connection with Russia’s plans for ZNPP

MOSCOW, 5 Oct – PRIME. The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said that he would hold appropriate consultations in connection with Russia’s plans to take control of the work of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

The decree that the specified nuclear power plant becomes the property of Russia was signed on Wednesday by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“The IAEA Director General will hold consultations with the relevant authorities following reports that appeared today that Russia plans to monitor the work of the Zaporizhzhya NPP,” the international agency said in a statement.

Grossi already left for Kyiv on Wednesday, then he will arrive in Russia. As noted, during this visit, the head of the IAEA will continue negotiations aimed at the speedy coordination and implementation of a nuclear safety zone around the Zaporozhye NPP.
