IAEA mission arrived in Zaporozhye, Ukrainian Energoatom reported
MOSCOW, August 31 – PRIME. The IAEA mission has arrived in Zaporozhye, the Ukrainian Energoatom said.
“Today, August 31, 2022, at about 15:00 (coincides with Moscow time), the mission of the International Nuclear Energy Agency arrived in Zaporozhye,” the company’s press service noted in the Telegram messenger.
Earlier on Tuesday, it was reported that a group of 14 IAEA experts headed by the agency’s director general Rafael Grossi arrived in Kyiv. According to Reuters on Wednesday morning, the mission moved towards the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Grossi confirmed the information, adding that specialists would spend several days at the facility.
ZNPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the city of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. Since March, it has been guarded by the Russian military to prevent leaks of nuclear and radioactive materials.
The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Energodar, the surrounding villages and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city.
