SIMFEROPOL, 7 Oct – PRIME. Today there is no technical possibility to launch power units at the Zaporozhye NPP, Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the movement “We are together with Russia”, a member of the main council of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, told RIA Novosti.
“Today there is no technical possibility to launch the power units at the Zaporozhye NPP. there is a flow to maintain their own needs and the cycle at the nuclear power plant,” he said.
Rogov explained that in order to start the reactors, it is necessary to restore power lines for the flow.
“Preventive work is underway at the power units. But there is no talk of launching them now. Steam is needed to start them, and the thermal power plant is not working now. It is also possible to start a nuclear power plant using an electric impulse, but this method is more expensive and will take much longer – up to a week – and will require large amounts of electricity, which there is no place to get. Therefore, as of today, there is no way to launch it,” he said.
According to Rogov, a group of IAEA experts is due to arrive at the Zaporozhye NPP on Friday.
“A group of IAEA experts is coming to visit us. Today they should arrive at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and replace two specialists from Spain and Romania,” he said.
The new group of IAEA experts, who will remain at the Zaporozhye NPP, will include citizens of Ireland, Canada, Lithuania and Slovakia, Rogov said.
Now there are two representatives of the IAEA at ZNPP who monitor the situation at the nuclear power plant.
Earlier, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said that the organization would increase the number of experts at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant from two to four. Their arrival is expected on Friday, October 7th.
