Intel Core i5-12400 CPU much better than AMD Ryzen 5 5600X in price performance

For now, the Intel Core i5-12400 will be the most basic chip in the Alder Lake Core i5 CPU segment. It will have 6 cores, 12 threads. In addition, it will be clocked at 2.5 GHz and will go up to 4.4 GHz (4.0 GHz on all cores). The CPU has a base TDP of 65W, but at maximum power it is between 100 and 150W.

The test with the Intel Core i5-12400 at PugetBench is with an ASRock Z690 Extreme WiFi 6E motherboard, 16GB DDR4-2400 memory, operating system Windows 10 and an RTX 3060 Ti graphics card. This is not the most ideal configuration for an Alder Lake chip, as the memory is not even set to XMP speeds and as far as we know it works better with Windows 11.

With this said the Intel Core i5-12400 Alder Lake CPU compares to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X which was tested on an ASRock X570 Extreme 4 motherboard, 16GB DDR4-4000 memory and the RTX 3060 Ti GPU on Windows OS. 10.

So the performance of the Intel Core i5-12400 scored 712 points with a standard score of 78.7, while the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X scored 722 points with a standard score of 79.3 points. The Ryzen CPU outperforms the Core i5 chip, but with a very, very small advantage, and it is also clear that the Core i5-12400 can easily outperform the Ryzen 5 chip with the right memory and the right operating system. Other than that, the Core i5-12400 will be worth $ 200, and it competes directly with a Ryzen chip that costs 50% more.

These tests show that the Core i5-12400 offers similar or even better performance than the Ryzen 5 5600X with the same power consumption, so overall, the small i5 aims to be the dream of those who want to build a PC. moderately economical and with a very good performance.

Intel is really going to make things difficult for AMD in the budget and mainstream segment, we are eager to see how AMD will respond.
