Intel GPU Industry Leader Raja Koduri to be Executive Vice President of the Company

The main face and the creator of the line of GPU Arc Alchemist of Intel, Raja Koduri, has just been promoted within the company, he is now one of the vice presidents.

After years of research, the company seems to be finally ready to enter the market dominated by AMD and NVIDIA. Its first enthusiast-oriented cards are expected to start hitting stores in the second half of 2022.

After working for years at AMD, Intel hired Raja Koduri in 2017. The executive played a key role in the recent transformation of the company, which in addition to reinventing the way it works with its CPUs, also decided to expand its activities into the dedicated graphics segment, an area in which Koduri would assume a leadership role. .

Should Intel invest even more in GPUs?

Intel must invest even more in the GPU market, Koduri’s promotion is a clear sign of this. While the first generation of their cards shouldn’t compete with high-end options (the Arc A770 has similar power to NVIDIA’s RTX 2070), that’s likely to change in the future.

The company’s entry into the market does not necessarily mean the defeat of other big names in the area, it seems to have the necessary resources to at least mess with the market structures. Among the elements that stand out in the Arc line is the upscale XeSS technology that, in its first version, promise to bring a quality similar to DLSS NVIDIA 2.0.

The global component shortage it is the element that has played against Intel the most, and many other companies, for which they have been forced to repeatedly delay the launch of their products. The expectation is that the company’s first high-end option, known as the Ponte Vecchio, will launch in 2022, something that seems to depend on the ability of the TSMC foundry to manufacture the chips used in the product.
