Intel is asking manufacturers not to put DDR4 memory slots on 700 Series motherboards.

Although Intel’s upcoming 13th generation of desktop CPUs, with codename Raptor Lakeretain support for DDR4 memory, Intel is doing its best to push DDR5 forward when the platform launches later this year.

Apparently, Intel is asking motherboard manufacturers to avoid using DDR4 memory in combination with the upcoming 700 series chips and the only reason for this would be to speed up the transition to DDR5. Based on various leaks and rumours, we should expect to see support for DDR5 at 5600 MHz with Raptor Lake, which is a step in the right direction and This is where you start to notice the difference in performance between DDR5 and DDR4.

This is not to say that Intel has removed support for DDR4 in CPUs, as it is still very much around and is expected to work well on 600-series chipset motherboards. new CPU, at least not after a quick BIOS update.

To our knowledge this is all partially related to the fact that DDR4 and DDR5 motherboards have quite different UEFI code (BIOS) when it comes to memory support and in turn means that motherboard manufacturers they will end up spending much more time getting their boards to work, as is already the case with 600-series chips.

We understand Intel’s idea, but we also expect to see some motherboards based on the 700 series chips with DDR4 support, at least not at the top of the range, but some.
