Intel is establishing a development center engaged in the design of Low-power GPU In the United Kingdom. There are several job advertisements on the company website for specialized figures (here an example) who want to join in that of Swindon(South West England) to a “new team focused solely on low-power GPU architectures and designs“targeting the” next generation of portable devices. “The team will fall under the umbrella of the Xe Architecture and IP Engineering (XAE) Low Power Group.

The location of this new team, the UK, may be anything but coincidental. In the Land of Albion they are found ARM e Imagination Technologiesrespectively designers of the Mali and PowerVR GPUs dedicated to mobile devices and more (automotive, etc.).

This development is just the latest in a long series for Intel’s renewed commitment to the world of graphics: since the company announced its entry into the high-performance dedicated GPU market in 2017, division boss Raja Koduri has started a very large procurement campaign that saw him snatch experienced engineers from other companies. The first fruits of this work will be seen this year with the debut of the “Alchemist” Arc GPUs on notebooks, desktops and workstations.
