Intel's Core i9-12900K outperforms Ryzen 9 5950X by 39% in Ashes of the Singularity

During the course of the week someone tested Ashes of the Singularity with a sample unit of the Intel Core i9-12900K. Twitter user @ 9550pro took notice and shared some images. From what we can see Intel’s CPU is significantly faster than the competition’s.

For some time now we have been seeing some Core i9-12900K benchmarks that appear out there. Recall that Intel has not yet revealed its twelfth generation of CPUs. But as we get closer to the inevitable announcement date, we slowly get an idea of how well this new CPU will perform.

Some benchmarks guided us that the Core i9-12900K could compete directly with AMD’s Ryzen 9 5950X. But, many of these tests were done on Geekbench suite v5, and they only give us a general idea of performance.

Stardock recently updated Ashes of Singularity, a massive real-time strategy game where you command entire armies on a dynamic battlefield. With the new version 3.1 they allow the engine to use up to 16 cores simultaneously to make calls to the GPU. Before, the game could only use up to 8 cores, so this update makes better use of the resources of those CPUs that have more than 8 physical cores.

And as we can see in the benchmarks, the Core i9-12900K achieves a score of more than 14,000 points when paired with an RTX 3080. That’s 39% faster than what a Ryzen 9 5950X achieves with the same GPU. This benchmark was done in the Alto preset at 1440p.

Anyway, although this seems like a landslide victory, it is not official data and we only have very few details of the rest of the hardware involved in this test. In addition, we have yet to know the performance of this CPU in productivity and energy efficiency tasks compared to its counterpart at AMD, for example.

What do you think of these benchmarks? Do you think these numbers reflect the final performance of the Intel Core i9-12900K?
