If your iPhone’s camera isn’t working, you can try a number of quick fixes. To diagnose if it’s just the Camera app that’s not working, also check other apps that use the camera, like FaceTime or Instagram.

To fix your iPhone’s camera, you should close and reopen the Camera app as well as restart your phone and make sure it’s updated to the latest iOS version.

If that doesn’t work, you can try restoring your iPhone to factory settings – back it up first so you don’t lose all of your data – or contact Apple for further support.

For most people, the smartphone has become the primary camera. So if your iPhone’s camera isn’t working, you’re unlikely to even have a trusty DSLR camera tucked into your backpack.

So, if you want to take photos or record videos, you will need to fix your iPhone camera as soon as possible. Fortunately, in most cases, getting an iPhone camera to work will take a few seconds. Here’s how to do it.

Why the camera of theiPhone does not work and how to fix

If your iPhone camera is showing a black screen when open, slow or lagging when you tap to shoot, or is having other performance issues, first check if the Camera app itself is to blame. You can do this by launching another app that uses iPhone cameras, such as FaceTime or Instagram.

If the camera works with other apps, double-tap the Home button on an iPhone 8 or earlier, or swipe up from the bottom of the screen on an iPhone X or later and then swipe up on the Camera app and force closing, then try opening the app again. If the problem persists, turn the phone off and wait a minute, then turn it on and try again.

If restarting your phone didn’t fix the camera issue, try updating it. Launch the Settings app and look for any iOS updates, which will appear at the top of the Settings screen.

Still no luck? Then you need to reset the phone. In the Settings app, go to General, then scroll down and tap Reset. On the next screen, tap Reset all settings and confirm.

If the camera of yours iPhone still not working, contact Apple for assistance. You could also try resetting your iPhone at factory settings, even if you will lose all your data, so be sure to backup before proceeding with this option.
