Kyiv admitted that it carried out strikes in the Energodar area

MOSCOW, Sep 2 — PRIME. The General Staff of the Ukrainian troops admitted that the military formations (VFU) struck in the Enerhodar region, near the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

“It has been confirmed that in the areas of the settlements of Kherson and Energodar, three enemy artillery systems were destroyed by precise strikes by our troops,” the General Staff reported on Facebook* (banned in the Russian Federation as extremist).

On the eve of Thursday, a mission arrived at ZNPP with IAEA experts headed by the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi. Employees of the nuclear power plant and the head of Rosatom led the delegation around the entire territory of the station and showed the areas affected by the shelling of Ukrainian troops. Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, told RIA Novosti that two IAEA employees will remain at the Zaporozhye NPP on a permanent basis.

Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity – the plant has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. Since March, it has been under the protection of the Russian military. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this step was justified in order to avoid leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Enerhodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city.
