Leak: Nvidia RTX 2060 laptop (and Max-Q model)

A new leak points to the existence of a Mac-Q version of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card designed for laptops, along with alleged GPU specs – and a vanilla RTX 2060 Mobility.

The information comes from the rumored TUM-APISAK, who shared the details on his Twitter feed, finding the new graphics card in the 3DMark benchmark database, opposite the Lenovo 81HE laptop entry.

Apparently, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2060 Mobility will be clocked at 960 MHz with support for 6GB of GDDR6 video memory clocked at 1750 MHz.

As for the RTX 2060 Max-Q model, which is Nvidia’s technology to optimize the design and power consumption of the GPU to better match thin and light laptops, the base clock speed will increase to 975 MHz, but 6 GB of memory will be clocked at 1500 MHz and slower.

This is provided that the criteria are correct – as always, the information comes with the usual caveats.

Note that, as Tom’s Hardware notes, a previous Geekbench leak resulted in the RTX 2060’s base clock speed expected to be less than 1200 MHz, but as always, a slight difference in numbers is common with preliminary data, especially when it comes to about GPU testing, not to mention some rumors being fabricated.

OUTCOME 3DMARK

In any case, TUM_APISAK hid other details of the specification, but made it known that the RTX 2060 scored around 19,000 points in the 3DMark 11 test (performance), that is, the video card bypasses the GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q, albeit slightly slower than the classic GTX 1070 for laptops. Apparently, the best result was recorded, but the performance promises to be quite high.

The leak is also interesting because previous speculations pointed to the absence of an RTX 2060 Max-Q model, suggesting that Nvidia will only let the RTX 2080 and RTX 2070 go in that direction (although the 2060 Ti has been mentioned in the past).

Additional models of popular graphics cards are always welcome, provided the leaks are correct. We won’t have to wait long as Nvidia is expected to unveil new graphics cards for laptops at CES in January.

These are the best graphics cards you can buy at the end of 2018.
