Lite Hash Rate (LHR), what the abbreviation you will soon see on the GeForce RTX 3080, 3070 and 3060 Ti means
“Lite Hash Rate” O “LHR“is the way Nvidia decided to identify, both on the box and on manufacturers’ websites and in online stores, the new versions of the video cards GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti with limited performance in cryptocurrency mining.
“To help GeForce GPUs get into the hands of gamers, we announced in February that all GeForce RTX 3060s would be shipped with a reduced hash rate for Ethereum mining“, explains the company on your blog.
“Today we take additional measures applying the reduced ETH hash rate to the new production of the GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti cards. These cards will start to be delivered at the end of May“.
What we have so far called “limiter”, and which essentially halves the performance of GPUs in mining Ethereum (and Dagger Hashimoto algorithms or similar to Ethash), only applies to new production with the LHR identifier, not to cards already delivered or purchased.
Nvidia has therefore confirmed a new step, certainly not unexpected given the increasingly insistent rumors, to bring more GeForce RTX 3000 video cards into the hands of players (and there is a need, perhaps at human prices …) and make them less appetizing. by miners.
It should be noted that Nvidia does not mention the RTX 3090, so we won’t see an LHR version of this model. The company does not even mention the RTX 3060, the first card to include the limiter, unfortunately bypassed due to the erroneous publication by Nvidia itself of a compatible driver without the block.

The company, for the GeForce RTX 3060, has however confirmed the arrival of a new revision of the GPU to restore the limiter already in the past few weeks: in this case, however, it will not be characterized by the LHR identifier, since the RTX 3060 was born with the limiter on board from day one.
Recall that the GeForce LHR cards are flanked by the CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor) solutions that Nvidia has created to catalyze the demand for GPUs by miners with, apparently, very good initial results.
