Looks like Nvidia Ampere may introduce GeForce graphics cards!

Good news for those looking forward to the release of the GeForce RTX 3080.

Nvidia appears to be confirming that the recently announced Ampere GPU architecture will be available for both GeForce graphics cards and commercial products.

When the company unveiled its 7nm Ampere microarchitecture, Nvidia focused entirely on the data center, without even mentioning PC games or the GeForce RTX 3080 for consumers. Instead, the 7nm architecture debuted with the A100 GPU targeting Nvidia’s datacenters, promising 20x the processing power of the Nvidia Volta.

The company also said it has combined eight such GPUs into a single $ 1 million DGX A100 rack. Such a system allows processing up to 56 tasks simultaneously and achieving 5 petaflops of performance based on artificial intelligence.

While this information does not appeal to the average PC gamer, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said during a GTC virtual conference briefing that the Ampere 7nm microarchitecture will be used in all next-generation graphics cards. Apparently, we are talking about consumer GeForce video cards.

Of course, one announcement is not enough to get an idea of the new graphics cards, but we are confident that Nvidia will open the veil of secrecy – hopefully this year. And we reached out to Nvidia for clarification, then we’ll update the article if we hear anything interesting.

| IT’S ALL ABOUT ARCHITECTURE

While we have yet to grasp any information about the consumer-oriented GeForce GPUs based on Ampere, when asked by a reporter during a briefing on the difference between Amper’s corporate and consumer approach, Huang said that “there is a significant overlap in architecture, but not in configuration. “

This already confirmed move will mark the first time that Nvidia will bundle all of its products into a single microarchitecture. For example, the previous generation GPUs used the Turing architecture for the consumer-focused GeForce and Quadro graphics cards, and the Volta architecture for Tesla for the data center.

The long-rumored Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 is expected to be the first Green Team graphics card based on the 7nm Ampere architecture. According to a recent leak, the card will get 3,840 CUDA cores versus 2,944 cores on the RTX 2080, add a 320-bit memory bus and probably 10GB of video memory.

The GeForce RTX 3080 is expected to launch naturally alongside the 3080 Ti, with the latest rumor suggesting the card will be 40% faster than the current GeForce 2080 Ti.

Nvidia’s next generation Ampere graphics cards are expected to arrive in the third quarter of 2020, starting with high-spec flagship models.
